The City of Cape Town has changed the hours in which alcohol is allowed to be sold. The trading hours within SPAR and TOPS will both be changed.

Mon – Sat           9am – 6pm

Sundays               Closed

We have all realised the change in the weather, as it gets chilly we bring out the winter clothes and set up the heaters, but some aren’t as lucky as we are. We want to help those that don’t have enough warm clothes and blankets this winter and try keep them warm as well. You can help us by adding old beanies, scarves, blankets or other warm clothes to our drop off bins. You can also add extra hot chocolate, soup mixes and stock to your trolley to keep their bellies warm as well. There is so much we can do to help this winter if we all help together.

CQ SPAR is the main sponsor for renovating the victim support rooms at both police stations closest to the store. This initiative is part of a joint venture between SPAR South Africa, SAPS, & Business Against Crime South Africa.

The main idea is to create a safe space for victims of crime at police stations across the country. In designing these rooms the needs of especially women and children have been taken into account. Reporting a crime, especially a sexual crime can be extremely intimidating in the cold and busy charge offices of police stations. Together with highly qualified designers and councilors we have come up with an innovative design that can be used at all police stations across the country. SPAR South Africa has undertaken to get every store nationwide to adopt a police station in order to make this available to all South Africans.

This will help victims, especially the women and children, feel more comfortable and willing to go to the police and feel safe. This in turn will spread across the country and will hopefully to help more victims step forward and pull the plug on crime.

This month we will be focusing on personal hygiene. We take for granted that we have toothbrushes, soap, shampoo and other hygiene products but for some this is a luxury. This month we urge you to put an extra something in to the bins provided for those that can’t afford to take proper care of their personal hygiene and we’ll take care of the rest. Volunteer doctors, optometrists, dentists and hairdressers are giving up their time to help as well. Together we can all make a difference in someone’s life this month.

On the 27^th of April we will be celebrating Freedom Day; we celebrate this day to remember the first democratic elections held in South Africa back in 1994. 19 years later the country can now be proud of the many achievements that have been accomplished within our beloved country for an entrenched democracy and a better life for all South Africans.

There are many things we can be proud of; we are now a resilient and maturing democracy that has come a long way from our divided passed. Our constitutional order has proved itself to be a strong one that has united us as South Africans and made us want the best for our country and people.

On Freedom day we look towards a continuing resilience from our people, we strive to work together and hope to strengthen our bonds for the future generations. On this day of remembrance take a minute to look back and think of those who fought so valiantly for the best for our country, although it may seem there is a long way yet to go – we have come further than some may realize.
